Ingredients:
4 Medium Honeycrisp or Granny Smith Apples
4 9-inch Pie Dough (store bought or homemade)
1/2 cup + 3 Tbsp Unsalted Butter
6 Tbsp Granulated Sugar
1 tsp Apple Pie Spice
1 cup Apple Juice
1 cup Light Brown Sugar
Directions:
Preheat grill to medium (375ºF).
Peel and core each apple.
Cut the pie dough into four pieces about 8x8 inches.
In a small bowl, mix the granulated sugar and apple pie spice.
Place an apple in the center of each piece of dough.
In the core of each apple place one piece of butter and a small amount of the sugar/apple pie spice mixture.
Bring the corners of the dough over the apple. Using your fingers seal the edges of the dough so the apple cannot be seen.
Place the sumplings a greased cast iron skillet.
On the grill's side burner, place the brown sugar, apple juice, and unsalted butter in a saucepan and bring to a boil over medium heat.
Stir frequently until the sugar is dissolved.
Pour mixture over the apples in the cast iron skillet.
Sprinkle remaining sugar/apple pie spice mixture over the top of the apples.
Place the cast-iron skillet on the cooking grid.
Grill for 50 to 55 minutes, or until golden brown.
Note: A toothpick should be able to be inserted easily when they are done.
Remove from the grill and serve warm with some sauce over the apples.
Enjoy.
